The 1-Up Mushroom is a powerup item found within various entries in the Mario franchise of games. The powerup made its debut in the 1985 NES game Super Mario Bros.
The 1-Up Mushroom's main function, as indicated by the name, is to give the player one extra life when touched. The mushroom is colored green to distinguish itself from the red Super Mushroom powerup, which otherwise looks identical.
In M.U.G.E.N, the 1-Up Mushroom has been made by MatsudaSpecial. It is a spriteswap of Green Devil, a character based on a challenge involving the 1-Up Mushroom in Super Mario 64, and uses sprites from the 1-Up Mushroom's appearance in Super Mario World.
MatsudaSpecial's version
Counter to its function in the mainline games, the 1-Up Mushroom is something that must be avoided at all costs, for merely touching it will deliver an instant K.O.. The reason for this is pretty simple: 1-Up Mushroom is nothing more than a spriteswap of Green Devil, and not a particularly stealthy one at that, as it still calls itself by that name.
