Adolf Hitler (born April 20, 1889 - died April 30, 1945) was an Austrian-born German politician and the leader of the Nazi Party.
He was appointed the Chancellor of Germany in 1933, and declared himself the President of Germany after the sudden death of German President Paul von Hindenburg in 1934. Hitler's aggressive foreign policy and racially motivated political ideologies led to the outbreak of World War II. On April 30th, 1945, Hitler would commit suicide during the Battle of Berlin in order to avoid capture by the invading Soviet Red Army, thus ending the war in Europe.
