Dr. Albert W. Wily is the main antagonist of the Mega Man series, appearing as the final boss in almost every game in the classic series. Wily is also indirectly responsible for the events of the Mega Man X series, appearing post-mortem in Zero's flashback sequences.

Originally a colleague of Dr. Thomas Light, Wily was a renowned scientist with a PhD in Electronic Engineering who was nominated for a Nobel Prize in Physics. Fueled by jealousy, Wily would eventually see Dr. Light as a bitter rival, prompting Wily to steal Dr. Light's six Robot Masters and reprogramming them to fulfill his new goal of world domination. After his plans were thwarted by Mega Man numerous times, he created Bass in an attempt to finally destroy Mega Man once and for all, but this plan backfired when Bass decided to rebel against Wily to fulfill his own ambitions; faced with failure, Wily would create Zero in an attempt to destroy both of them, but was forced to seal Zero away after a programming error made him violent and uncontrollable. Although Wily would eventually die of natural causes, his legacy would live on through the virus contained within Zero, who would remain in a dormant state until a century after Wily's death, starting the Maverick outbreak in Mega Man X.

While Wily is known to fight Mega Man by himself from the safety of his Wily capsule, he's decided to bring some assistance this time in the form of resurrected previous Robot Masters. Of course, with so many projectiles and mines at his disposal granting him the keepaway tactics his Wily capsules are often known for, one has to wonder if the Robot Masters are assisting their master, or if Wily is the one assisting them.
