This article is about the character from the NES game, Duck Hunt. For other uses of Duck Hunt, see Duck Hunt (disambiguation).
The Duck Hunt Dog is a character from the NES video game, Duck Hunt. Alongside a duck, the dog appears as an unlockable character in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U, known as Duck Hunt in the US and Japanese versions and Duck Hunt Duo in the European versions.
The dog is a companion of sorts to the player, who helps flush ducks out of the bushes in order for the player to shoot them, but also mocks the player should they fail to shoot any of the ducks in a single set. This mocking laugh has made the dog rather infamous among video game characters, leaving many players feeling disappointed that they cannot shoot the dog instead of the ducks. In Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U, he can summon an outlaw from Wild Gunman as well as a tin can from Hogan's Alley that explodes on contact.
In M.U.G.E.N, Duck Hunt Dog was made three times, by Matti, IIGamesMasterII, and DJ HANNIBALROYCE. DJ HANNIBALROYCE's version is the only one that was finished, as the other two are betas with a very limited movepool.
Matti's version[]
It has no Specials or Hypers. Can't block, can't attack in air, or while crouching. This dog is extremely bare bones with a sprite count just as small as its moveset. This is especially evident in its knocked down sprite; it's just the standing sprite flipped upside down.
IIGamesMasterII's version[]
With its zapper fully loaded, the apply named "dam" dog appears to be a leaked beta. With a very unsafe moveset and difficulty comboing, this dog will laugh at your attempts to play as it seriously.
DJ HANNIBALROYCE's version[]
Despite being created at some point after Duck Hunt Dog's Super Smash Bros. reveal, the character barely takes any cues in either appearance or gameplay from said incarnation. Like all of DJ HANNIBALROYCE's chars, this dog and duck duo comes packed with jokes, references, and several different types of entrances involving trophies.
