This version of Yu Narukami is based on his Persona 4 Arena appearance. While the character itself is functional and mostly source-accurate, differences between the Persona 4 Arena engine and M.U.G.E.N do lead to some visual and gameplay oddities.
Yu Narukami is a five-button character, using Ⓧ, Ⓨ, Ⓐ, and Ⓑ for normals, and Ⓒ for a Burst.
Since this version of Yu is a port of his Persona 4 Arena appearance, most system mechanics from that game are present. However, Persona Breaks, Guard Cancel Attacks, Mini Jumps, and Air Turns appear to be unimplemented or missing.
Yu's normals are divided into weak (Ⓧ), strong (Ⓨ, Persona Attack (Ⓐ), and Persona Rush (Ⓑ) attacks. Each type of Normal can be chained into a later one in the order, or another Normal of the same type. In addition to chain combos, Yu has an autocombo. Repeatedly pressing Ⓧ will cause him to perform three attacks, followed by Swift Strike, then Ziodyne if the player has enough Power.
By pressing Ⓧ+Ⓨ+Ⓐ+Ⓑ or Ⓒ, Yu can use a Burst once per match (sprites for a Burst meter exist, but it appears to be unimplemented). There are three types of Bursts: Defensive Bursts occur when blocking or being attacked, One More! Bursts occur during some attacks and cancel all end lag, and Ultra Bursts occur while in a neutral state. Using an Ultra Burst will automatically fill the Power meter.
If Yu's HP is at 35% or less, he will enter Awakening mode. During Awakening, damage is reduced by 37.5%, his maximum Power is increased to 3000, he's automatically given 1000 Power, and Cross Slash becomes available for use. Awakening ends when the round is over, regardless of who wins.
At the start of a match, Yu can choose a palette for both himself and his persona, Izanagi by using the movement keys. and select Yu's palette, and and select Izanagi's palette.
Presumably due to issues with porting the character to M.U.G.E.N, Yu has several bugs that affect his gameplay. His combos have a tendency to drop for seemingly no reason, allowing the opponent to block the rest of the string. In addition, some of his moves display odd behaviors when used against characters other than himself. The grounded version of Big Gamble becomes unsafe on hit, Raging Lion fails to hit at point-blank range or on a cornered opponent, and most characters are unable to recover from Cross Slash's crumple stun on their own.
Hovering the mouse cursor over the Command Input icons will display text that refers to the inputs set in M.U.G.E.N's Key Config.
