Kim Kaphwan (usually shortened to Kim, his family name) is a character from Fatal Fury, first debuting in Fatal Fury 2 and appearing in many of the series' mainline games and its crossovers, including prominent appearances in The King of Fighters. He is a Korean Tae Kwon Do master with a strong sense of justice, dressed in a traditional blue and white gi and donning a black belt.
Kim Kaphwan used his status as a master of the Tae Kwon Do art to fight against the best fighters on the planet. Alongside this, he uses Tae Kwon Do to face and rehabilitate those he deems evil-doers, as he considers himself a fighter of justice. In the events of Fatal Fury 2, he fought Wolfgang Krauser in the King of Fighters tournament and found a strong sense of friendship with Terry Bogard, helping each other and maintaining a friendly rivalry ever since they first met. Later in the events of the Real Bout Fatal Fury series, he helps Terry and his other colleagues reach Geese Howard to prevent him from making himself immortal using the Scrolls of Immortality. Kaphwan is later succeeded by his sons Dong Hwan and Jae Hoon, who fight the serial killer Freeman after he fails to defeat him.
In The King of Fighters, Kim Kaphwan is considered a national hero in his native land of Korea and uses this status to make progress in his rehabilitation methods, gaining custody over notable criminals Chang Koehan and Choi Bounge to rid them of their evil ways. Over the years, Jhun Hoon, a good friend of his, and May Lee Jinju, an apprentice, would help him in these methods, but he tried to get Geese's henchmen Raiden and Hwa Jai rehabilitated in The King of Fighters XIII and eventually failed. He was also in the same team as Terry and Duck King in The King of Fighters XI, and teamed up with his master Gang-Il and his lover Luong in The King of Fighters XIV.
In M.U.G.E.N, Kim Kaphwan has been made multiple times due to his popularity and large amount of appearances. The most notable conversions of him come from The King of Fighters 2002, Fatal Fury Special, and the Capcom vs. SNK series, although some versions are based on custom systems, like Pobber22's version.
Mr. Fong's version[]
Mr. Fong's take on Kim is a customized variant of his Capcom vs. SNK appearances, ditching the Stance Change system from those games in favor of something more along the lines of his KoF appearances. Despite this, he still keeps his gameplay as a defensive neutral-based character, with many expansion-based Specials/Hypers and excellent pokes promising to keep evil at rest for good.
