Kyo-1 is a clone of Kyo Kusanagi from The King of Fighters '99. He first appears in that game as a playable character, and would eventually become part of the Kyo Clone Team in The King of Fighters 2002 Unlimited Match.
Outside the game's universe, the game's developers wanted to see Kyo's The King of Fighters '94 moveset return to the game, but they were not sure which uniform he should wear. As time was running out, the project head told them to include 2 clones instead, and drew their designs on the spot, creating Kyo-1 and Kyo-2.
Both clones have been programmed to hate Kyo himself and serve the NESTS organization. Kyo-1 acts more serious than Kyo-2, and never underestimates his opponents.
In M.U.G.E.N, Kyo-1 has been made quite a number of times by various authors. The most commonly used one is by Jin, and is supplied as part of a 2-pack with Kyo-2.
Kyo-1 is an absolute terror at close range. Many of his close range attacks, including his projectile and one super, have OTG properties. However, his long range capabilities are limited by the poor startup of his projectile.
