Lightning is one of the many locations featured in the F-Zero Grand Prix of the games, F-Zero GX and F-Zero: GP Legend. Lightning, as its name implies, is an area that is constantly hammered by thunderstorms due to the mass quantities of air pollution, though the inhabitants of the area make use of this weather with specialised power facilities and exporting any excess power off to neighbouring planets.
In M.U.G.E.N, Lightning has been created by EXShadow. It is based on its appearance in F-Zero GX with combatants fighting on a platform that travels along the course. Various lightning effects fill the sky of the stage, as well as said sky switching colour between blue and red.

EXShadow's Lightning is not directly based on any of the three Lightning courses from F-Zero GX, though the general motif has been carried over, complete with a red, cage-like track and a dark sky that's illuminated with constant lightning effects; every so often, the sky will alter the tint of the stage as it changes colour from blue to red and back again. The combatants fight atop a high-speed platform that races along a never-ending stretch of track, slowly floating up and down as it does so, though the stage isn't overly big as a result of the confined space; when used in WinMUGEN and M.U.G.E.N 1.1, the characters don't properly follow the movement of the platform, moving too much vertically in relation to it. The stage may cause lag on older machines due to the resolution of the stage and its effects, though the lag is more noticeable on character velocities and command inputs than animations themselves.
