R.O.B. (short for Robotic Operating Buddy) is an an accessory for the Nintendo Entertainment System. Released in 1985, it was created to help support the portrayal of the system being a novel toy as opposed to a video games console, but has since appeared as a video game character in its own right, initially making cameos in other Nintendo games before making its debut as a playable character in Mario Kart DS, and later, the Super Smash Bros. series.
R.O.B. was only compatible with two games -- Gyromite and Stack-up -- that make up the Robot Series, making its usability rather short-lived. Perhaps to poke fun at the slow movement speed of R.O.B.'s arm rotations, video games usually have R.O.B. spin its arms quite fast; in the Super Smash Bros. series, they even spin fast enough to deflect projectiles. R.O.B. is also shown to be able to shoot powerful lasers from its eyes and propel itself into the air with thrusters.
In M.U.G.E.N, R.O.B. has been made by J.NEWMAN and WlanmaniaX. J. NEWMAN's version uses custom sprites based on R.O.B.'s sprites from Kirby's Dream Land 3.
J. NEWMAN's version[]
This Robot Operating Buddy is no friend of those who like characters with more than seven attacks in total, none of which are Specials nor Hypers. The sprites are custom, but are based on R.O.B.'s sprites from Kirby's Dream Land 3.
WlanmaniaX's version[]
Being a character made by WlanmaniaX, this version of R.O.B. uses custom sprites, but there are several oddities with the sprites and the animations aren't very fluid. While he has gameplay mechanics from Marvel vs. Capcom, a lot of his attacks are based on Super Smash Bros. with a few Angry Video Game Nerd references thrown in the mix. He does have a lot of issues however, and some of his attacks are very cheap.
