The Sky Sanctuary, typically referred to as Sky Sanctuary Zone, is a location that originates from the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise, making its debut in Sonic & Knuckles (and its locked-on form Sonic 3 & Knuckles) as the sixth and twelfth stage respectively. An ancient, aerial temple in the sky surrounding Angel Island, it is a sacred territory which is forbidden for anyone to enter, besides Knuckles and the animals that inhabit it.
Floating high above the clouds, Sky Sanctuary Zone can only be accessed via aircraft or using the teleporters located in Hidden Palace Zone, meaning that very few people have visited the area. During the events of Sonic & Knuckles (referred to in canon as the "Angel Island Incident"), after making amends with Sonic, Knuckles grants him and Tails permission to enter Sky Sanctuary Zone so that they can help in retrieving the Master Emerald after it is stolen by Dr. Eggman.
In M.U.G.E.N, Sky Sanctuary Zone has been made twice: once by DJ Sonic, and once by Xtuart.

DJ Sonic's version is based on its appearance in Mecha Sonic's boss battle. Sonic and Tails both appear on their biplane, the Tornado, and Knuckles is seen with a Chao as well. Angel Island can be seen in the background, tipping back and forth as it did during the boss battle.
